World Conflict Resolution Day Training

Mediation is achieving much higher recognition in countries across the world, where it is increasingly used to resolve conflicts in many different fields. The focus is on family mediation and, as ever, the aim is to rediscover the essence of mediation and infuse it with fresh thinking drawn from international perspectives and our shared experience. Whatever conflicts we may be involved with, “Changing the World” brings new challenges and opportunities for us all.

This is the Mediation Centre's tenth year of running our annual “developing mediation day,” this year as part of their new specialist programme and as a contribution to World Conflict Resolution Day.

The centre is honoured to have not only Dr Mohamed Keshavjee to share with us thoughts about Gandhi, Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr and transformative mediation, but also experienced practitioners and experts from across Europe to take part in the International Round Table. In the afternoon there will be workshops and further opportunities for discussion.

The day is followed by our Fourth International Weekend of Mediation, Science and the Arts (19-21 October 2012 and fully booked).

Download the flyer, programme and booking form for World Conflict Resolution Day in Stafford on 18 October.

Structured Mediation Practice - Coogler Model Workshop

SOUTH EAST LONDON FAMILY MEDIATION BUREAU - FAMILY MEDIATION WORKSHOP

“STRUCTURED MEDIATION PRACTICE, AN OPTION FOR FAMILY MEDIATORS”

Introduction

Jim Coogler was an American Lawyer who before his death in 1975 trained the majority of Family Mediation Practitioners in North America.  Coogler’s own experience of family breakdown and the conciliatory approach of the respective attorneys in the divorce proceedings was a defining point in his own career path. His book “Structured Mediation in Divorce Settlement” is a classic of its kind in the field of conflict resolution.

This workshop has been designed to explore the significant components of the Coogler model of structured mediation.  More particularly how step by step a structure is erected which can help ensure that the people concerned are enabled to use their rational abilities to the fullest extent.

Moreover, almost since the Bureau’s inception in 1978 the Service has been concerned to adapt and develop the critical elements of the Coogler Model of Structured Mediation Practice, particularly in relation to the management of parental conflict.

Finally, family mediators are drawn from a variety of professional backgrounds.  This workshop will also feature the presentation of case material and illustrate how ‘structure’ can ensure that mediators can maximise their expertise and effectiveness in the management of interpersonal conflict.
